Born in 1981 in Moscow, Russia, Ivan Demidov is a semi-professional poker player best known for having made the final table of both the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the WSOP Europe Main Events in the same year, making him the only poker player in history to reach the final table of both Main Events.
Demidov started playing poker online while in college studying mathematics. He attended the Moscow State University. After he graduated, he started playing the highest cash games he could find in Moscow.
It was in one of these games in which he met a regular who saw the promise in him, and who offered to stake Demidov to play in a few WSOP Events. Soft-spoken Demidov accepted, and let his poker prowess do the talking for him.
Prior to the 2008 WSOP Main Event, Demidov had little live experience, having only cashed in three tournaments. However, he quickly proved that he was one to watch out for. Demidov made the November Nine, the group of players destined to battle it out at the November final table of the 2008 WSOP. He placed second to Peter Eastgate to win a cool US$5,809,595. In October 2008, he reached the final table of the WSOP Europe Main Event in London, finishing in third place.
As of 2009, Demidov’s live poker tournament winnings exceed US$6,550,000. And while he hasn’t bagged the WSOP Champion title yet, he is showing much promise to do so in the near future.
